Carson Daly Takes a Hike

By now, you've heard about Carson Daly's decision to cross the Writers Guild picket line. You may have also read the WGA's official response. In that response, it acknowledged that Daly is not a guild member. It also said that others, such as Letterman, Leno, O'Brien, Ferguson and Kimmel "have all resisted network pressure and honored our writers’ picket lines." Of course, they are WGA members and would be subject to sanctions should they cross the picket line. It would be more surprising if either of them took such a drastic step.
Since Daly isn't a member, there's nothing the guild can officially do to punish him for his action. However, should he ever seek work as a writer with a guild signatory company, can the WGA penalize him at that time? Can they deny him membership, thus blocking his employment as a writer? Do you think it would be just to drop the hammer on Daly for an act that was done while a non-member?
