The Story Behind REELot

In April 2006, John Contrubis and Sindy Gordon created BAT Entertainment Inc. to best represent writers and filmmakers.

Prior to starting their own consulting company they served together on the Executive Staff of the Writers Guild of America, East. Mr. Contrubis, as Assistant Counsel, represented motion picture and television writers, as well as newswriters. One of his primary responsibilities was the administration of the WGA Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA) (the contract between the Writers Guild and the Studios and Networks) and the WGA Low Budget and Documentary Screenplay Agreements. In addition, he was successful in securing monetary awards by representing writers in grievances and arbitrations. He was also involved in advocating writers’ interests before the U.S. Congress. In Public Relations and Events, Ms. Gordon was responsible for all press and events as well as producing the WGA Awards in NYC for four years. Prior to that she had worked extensively in all facets of film marketing and public relations. Read more about John and Sindy at http://www.reelot.com/team.

During the early stages of developing BAT Entertainment they decided to utilize the Internet not only to focus on the company, but also to create an interactive tool that would make the flow of information from clients efficient and secure. Dealing extensively with numerous scripts and other written material, it was essential that the presentation be highly organized and available. They also recognized the need to facilitate a writer’s ability to pitch work using the Internet.

The REELot homepage features writers and theatrical release trailers from studios and REELot members. Featured writers appear in the REEL Writers showcase and are directly linked to their profile page. The REEL Writers rotation gives all writers the opportunity to gain front-page exposure. The Featured Videos allow the user to view a trailer and learn about the writer’s experience through interviews, press notes or other written material provided by the writer or distributor.

For theatrical releases, REELot provides writers with the exposure that they and the Writers Guild continuously demand. Such a partnership offers writers a level of recognition not afforded to them and undeniably deserved.

REELot members who have written a script and produced a trailer are welcome to submit that trailer for inclusion on the REELot homepage. That’s just another way REELot offers writers a way to promote their work.

REELot is an interactive tool that allows writers to take control of their career by presenting work in a professional and controlled environment. REELot gives writers an outlet to share their experiences and benefit from feedback. REELot exists in an industry with many options and opportunities. We hope it inspires and indulges in an effort to support commitment to careers in writing.
